In June this year, external funding of £358,000 was awarded by the Big Lottery for three play projects sponsored by North Lincolnshire Council. This money represents the largest single investment of this kind to be made to play projects in North Lincolnshire and the successful application is as a result of a six month consultation process that was carried out during 2006.
Schools, community groups, town and parish councils and residents associations were involved in establishing the main priorities for improving play in the area. The selected projects were then put forward to the Big Lottery for approval.

The Westwoodside Village Play Space project is Phase 2 of a four phase programme to completely transform the facilities at the playing field off Akeferry Road in the village.
Planning permission was necessary for phases 2 and 3 and was granted in 2006.
- Phase 1 – to renovate, refurbish and make safe an existing skateboard half pipe – funding received, work to commence as soon as possible
- Phase 2 - to replace the out-dated children’s play equipment at the field with more, modern equipment – funding received, work to commence in early 2008
- Phase 3 - to erect a Multi-Sports Court that will provide the local community with a facility for playing a number of different ball sports – funding being sought
- Phase 4 – to re-surface the car park at the entrance to the field - funding being sought
The purpose of the project is to improve the facilities available at the field to all parts of the local community and provide everybody with an opportunity to participate in sporting and other social activities available at the playing field.
